Who we are

Canada's first crypto newsroom, publishing from Toronto since Canada Day 2017. CryptoCanucks Inc. owns and publishes the site. It was founded by Jacques Yaakoub with a group of friends in Toronto; the 2017 to 2020 archive carries their original bylines. Today the desk publishes under pen names (below). Reach the newsroom through the contact page; a person reads every message.

Canadian first

Every story answers what it means for people in Canada: the Canada Revenue Agency, the securities regulators, FINTRAC and Parliament; Canadian exchanges and companies; Canadian events; prices in Canadian dollars. Global news runs when it changes something here.

Every claim is sourced

A market figure, a rule or a company fact runs with a link to the primary source it came from, or it does not run. Regulators, legislation, court filings, company filings and official data come first; law-firm and industry summaries are secondary and labelled as such. The law tracker and the directory show the date each entry was last verified.

Corrections

When we get a fact wrong we fix it in the article, add a dated correction note at the top, and update the "updated" date. Send corrections through the contact page with the subject "Tip or correction"; we acknowledge within two business days. Archive posts from 2017 to 2020 are kept as a historical record with a note at the bottom; we do not rewrite them, and where a newer guide supersedes one we link to it.

Bylines

New pieces are published under desk pen names: Tara (tax and personal finance), Chris (regulation and institutions), Bianca (builders and the ecosystem), Steve (bitcoin) and Claire (explainers). Each name is one beat written for one kind of reader, and each has an author page that says so. The pen names do not change the sourcing standard.

Press releases and sponsored content

Press releases are published as received, filed under Press Releases and labelled "published as received, not CryptoCanucks reporting". Sponsored content and advertising are labelled as such on the page, kept visually separate from editorial, and never influence what we cover or how. Featured directory and event listings are paid placement, labelled "Featured"; the facts in every listing are still verified and sourced the same way. See the advertising page.

No price calls, no advice

We do not predict prices, rank coins, run affiliate lists or recommend platforms. Nothing on the site is financial, legal or tax advice; read the disclaimer. Writers do not trade on stories before they run.

How we use AI

We use AI tools to help research, draft and check work. Every published piece is reviewed by a person against its sources before it goes live, and a person answers for it. Cover images are illustrations, some made with image-generation tools; they are never presented as photographs of real people or events, and we do not generate likenesses of real people.

Plain language

Jargon is explained the first time it appears. If a paragraph needs a glossary, it gets rewritten.
